In this webinar, Dr. David Jobes will highlight key evidence-based approaches for effective assessment, management, and treatment of suicidal risk with an appreciation of ethical issues and risk management. The presentation will explore some of the relevant history that shapes contemporary clinical suicidology as well as key models that shape our understanding of suicidality. The primary focus will be on clinical approaches to screening and assessment, interventions for acute stabilization, and treatments of what makes a patient suicidal based on randomized controlled trials. Finally, various ethical considerations and how to decrease exposure to malpractice liability will be discussed.

About David Jobes, Ph.D., ABPP
Dr. David A. Jobes, is a Professor of Psychology, Director of the Suicide Prevention Laboratory, and Associate Director of Clinical Training at The Catholic University of America. He is the author of seven books and hundreds of published articles and book chapters and he is the creator of an evidence-based, suicide-focused, treatment called the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS). Dr. Jobes is a past President of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) and the recipient of various awards for his scientific work including the 1995 AAS “Shneidman Award” (early career contribution to suicidology), the 2012 AAS “Dublin Award” (for career contributions in suicidology), and the 2016 AAS “Linehan Award” (for suicide treatment research). He is the recipient of the 2022 Alfred M. Wellner Award for Lifetime Achievement (for research excellence) from the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Dr Jobes is the recipient of 2025 “Erwin Ringel Service Award” for contributions to suicide prevention from the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP). He has been a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Academy of Medicine, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and served as a “Highly Qualified Expert” to the U.S. Army’s Intelligence and Security Command. Dr. Jobes is a Board Member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and he is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and is board certified in clinical psychology (American Board of Professional Psychology). Dr. Jobes maintains a private clinical and consulting practice in Washington DC and in Maryland.

Registration Cancellation & Refund Policy

NPA will accept written registration cancellation requests submitted via email up to two (2) business days before the scheduled program start date. To submit a cancellation request, email [email protected] and include your name and the title of the program for which you are cancelling your registration.
NPA will process a full refund to the original payment method on file for any cancellation request submitted in writing via email no less than two (2) business days before the scheduled program start date. Refunds are typically processed within (5) business days.
Cancellations & Refunds Due to Extenuating Circumstances
NPA will not process cancellation or refund requests received via phone message, text, or other means, or requests submitted after the deadlines above except in the case of extenuating circumstances. NPA will, at its sole and complete discretion, determine whether a request is the result of extenuating circumstances.

Continuing Education Grievance Policy
The Nevada Psychological Association ("CE sponsor") is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists. The CE Sponsor will comply with all legal and ethical guidelines for non-discrimination in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of CE participants. The CE Sponsor is responsible for complying with these standards. While the CE Sponsor strives to assure fair treatment for all participants and to anticipate problems before they occur, occasionally grievances may be filed.
In cases where a participant files a written or oral grievance, the following actions are taken:
- If the grievance concerns the content of the workshop, webinar, book, or the continuing education test, a CE Sponsor representative will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action and the grievance can be validated, a CE Sponsor representative may either provide a credit for a subsequent CE offering or provide a partial or full refund of the CE fee already paid.
- Actions involving a credit or a refund will require a written note documenting the grievance for record-keeping purposes. The aggrieved individual need not sign the note.
- If the grievance specifically concerns a CE Sponsor, a CE Sponsor representative will attempt to arbitrate.
