Description
Psychologists routinely encounter complex, high-stakes situations that require sound clinical judgment, ethical decision-making, and proactive risk management. This advanced workshop provides a deep dive into five of the most legally and ethically challenging areas of practice: compassionate and competent treatment of suicidal patients while balancing clinical and liability concerns, navigating the complexities of duty to protect obligations, working effectively with high-conflict families, managing subpoenas and courtroom testimony, and ensuring a legally and ethically sound termination of treatment. This day-long workshop will provide actionable strategies to mitigate risk, protect clients and practice, and enhance confidence in addressing these critical issues. This seminar is a key training for psychologists seeking to strengthen their ethical competence and safeguard their professional integrity in today’s increasingly complex clinical landscape.

About Daniel O. Taube, JD, PhD
Daniel O. Taube earned his J.D. from Villanova University in 1985 and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Hahnemann University in 1987, as a member of the Hahnemann/ Villanova Joint Psychology and Law Graduate Program. He is Professor Emeritus at the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco at Alliant International University, past Psy.D. Program Director, founder and coordinator of the Forensic Family Child.
His areas of professional focus include ethical and legal issues in professional practice, child protection, and addictions. In addition to his teaching and research interests, he has been in private practice since 1990, has served on the APA Ethics Appeals Panel for over 20 years, and taught graduate and professional level courses on ethical and legal issues in professional practice for over 25 years. Dr. Taube regularly consults with a wide range of practitioners and community agencies regarding standards of practice and ethical concerns.

This 15th Workshop in our Sequence series continues to emphasize applied, integrated and strategic methods to help you stay grounded in ethical principles and practices, and to protect you from adverse disciplinary and legal actions.
Workshop completion earns 6 CE credits and eligibility to receive a 15% premium discount on your Trust Sponsored Professional Liability Insurance for your next 2 consecutive policy periods. To obtain CE discounts, submit CE certification from an organization approved by APA to offer CE credit (must have been completed within the previous 15 months) with the insurance application. Discounts cannot be combined and are not applicable to Researcher/Academician or Student policies. Group policies become eligible for the CE discount when at least 50% of those insured under the group policy submit CE certification. All applications are individually underwritten and submission of CE certification will not guarantee insurance policy issuance or renewal.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
The Nevada Psychological Association will process non-Continuing Education Grievance cancellation and refund requests submitted in writing via email received in writing via email by Monday, October 19, 2026, at 12 pm PT. Cancellation and refund requests submitted by the deadline will be subject to a $75 administration fee.
The Nevada Psychological Association (NPA) will not process cancellation or refund requests submitted via text, phone call, or any other means besides written email submitted to the address below, nor will we process cancellation or refund requests submitted after the deadline except in extenuating circumstances as defined solely and exclusively by NPA.

Continuing Education Grievance Policy
The Trust and the Nevada Psychological Association (respectively, "CE sponsor"; together, "The CE Sponsors") are fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists. The CE Sponsors will comply with all legal and ethical guidelines for non-discrimination in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of CE participants. The CE Sponsors are responsible for complying with these standards. While the CE Sponsors strive to assure fair treatment for all participants and to anticipate problems before they occur, occasionally grievances may be filed. In cases where a participant files a written or oral grievance, the following actions are taken:
- If the grievance concerns the content of the workshop, webinar, book, or the continuing education test, a CE Sponsor representative will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, a CE Sponsor representative will either provide a credit for a subsequent CE offering or provide a partial or full refund of the CE fee already paid.
- Actions involving a credit or a refund will require a written note documenting the grievance for record-keeping purposes. The aggrieved individual need not sign the note. If the grievance specifically concerns a CE Sponsor, a CE Sponsor representative will attempt to arbitrate.

Continuing Education Credit Approval Requirements
In accordance with APA Continuing Education credit policies, attendees must attend an entire program missing no more than fifteen (15) minutes based on the program's publicised agenda and excluding publicized, scheduled break periods. Attendees will be required to sign in and out of the program space upon entering and exiting the space throughout the duration of the program. Sign in and sign out may be digital or physical.
The CE Sponsors will verify total attendance time based on signature records for the duration of the program. If an attendee misses more than 15 minutes of a program or fails to sign in or out during the program as directed by the CE Sponsors, (s)he/they may become ineligible to receive CE credits despite having participated in the program. It is the sole responsibility of the attendee to ensure they sign in and out as directed by the CE Sponsors for the duration of the program, and that they do not miss more than 15 minutes of the program throughout its duration.
